Russian truck racing Grand Prix: Renault Trucks-MKR Technology once again delivers a consistent performance - and results

The sixth leg of the European Truck Racing Championship took place in oppressive Russian heat. On Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 July, the Smolensk track hosted the Russian Truck Racing Grand Prix for the second successive year. The weekend was marked by a comeback for the MKR Technology Team with two victories in super pole position, several one-twos and five podiums, including two firsts.

The "super pole position" on the Saturday got off to a powerful start. Markus Oestreich recorded the fastest time. Unfortunately, he was disqualified for having touched a marker. We had to wait for the second race, with the reverse order start, to see the same Markus Oestreich on the top step of the podium.

On Sunday it was Markus Bösiger's turn to carry off the "super pole position". He finished the first race on Sunday in 3rd place, just behind Adam Lacko on the second step of the podium. With these good results MKR - Team 14 juniors finished this race on the top step of the podium just ahead of MKR Technology who were pleased with their very fine 2nd place. During the second race on Sunday, Adam Lacko once again made news by winning the race and climbing to the top of the podium. He was joined on the third step by Markus Bösiger.

At the end of the weekend, Markus Oestreich hangs on to the number three individual ranking with 176 points. Adam Lacko is close behind in 4th place with 170 points, while Markus Bösiger is ranked 7th with 148 points. In the manufacturer stakes, the MKR Technology Team has the number two spot with 403 points, while MKR Team 14 juniors is fourth with 303 points.

The Renault Trucks colours were certainly very much in evidence on the track and the podiums during the weekend. They were also given a high profile all around the racing circuit since the manufacturer's Russian subsidiary was sponsoring some of the races. One pace truck out of two was a Renault Trucks vehicle. Furthermore, while customers invited by Renault Trucks were able to get a close-up look at a Premium Long Distance, a Kerax and the Premium Truck Racing special edition, they were also given the opportunity of watching a series of wild dances. Things were rather less frenetic for the children, who were entertained with a makeup workshop.

The next appointment with the MKR Technology and MKR Team 14 juniors teams will be in the Czech Republic at Most on 27 and 28 August.
