After a week’s racing that has been as hard on the men as it has on the machines, the trucks participating in the Central European Rally have arrived at Balaton Lake. For the 2 race assistance Keraxes servicing Boucou and Hoebeke, who came in 27th and 28th respectively, and the 4 other Renault Trucks pure assistance vehicles… mission accomplished !
Completing the 2,600 km of the first Dakar Series between Hungary and Romania was no picnic for the trucks, four of which abandoned between the 4th and 5th stages. But the 2 race assistance Keraxes behind the French driver Michel Boucou and the Belgian Roland Hoebeke showed their true colours in terms of resistance, power and manoeuvrability, reaching the shores of Lake Balaton in 27th and 28th place respectively.
This first edition of the rally was a great opportunity to see the whole of the Renault Trucks range in action, assisting the race drivers and providing logistics back-up to the teams around the clock. Besides the Kerax used by the Lithuanian team, Riga Rally Team, the Kerax used as a service centre for all competitors by Loctite and Team Mitsubishi Repsol’s Midlum, a Magnum 480 was seen at the early overnight camps, assisting the Czech quad team, Dalija Sped ! Certainly a first on the Dakar, but short-lived on account of the withdrawal of their only rider after the 4th stage. As in Africa, each special stage was closed by the race’s sag wagon, a Kerax 6x6, picking up those competitors who had become marooned on the track.
Renault Trucks’ success in the central European states was confirmed with the presence at the rally of a Midlum fire truck, a Master converted into a camping car, a Premium Long-Distance belonging to the transporter Norbert Dentressangle on a logistics mission, and even the newest kid on the block, the Maxity, belonging to the Hungarian association Oxyteam which provides rescue and ambulance support at all national sporting events. Decidedly, Renault Trucks is behind its customers in all their missions, all their adventures.
