The Frankie Truck Racing Team were at the centre of an action-packed weekend of heavyweight entertainment as the Autodrom Most (Czech Republic) played host to the sixth round of the 2008 FIA European Truck Racing Championship. With a meritful third place for Markus and an overall second place for the Team : success was on everybody’s lips this week-end.
On the track it was Markus Altenstrasser who enjoyed the most successful results; the Austrian claiming 5th place in the opening Qualifying race followed up by a strong sixth in the Saturday Championship event.
But the next day produced even better results for the Renault racer –as he charged to third place finishes in both the Qualifying and Championship races. Markus had to work hard for his trophies… in the first race he was under pressure from Chris Levett (MAN) while the final race saw the Renault truck under continuous attack from the former European Champion Antonio Albacete (MAN).
But Altenstrasser wasn’t the only member of the Frankie Racing team to visit the podium on Sunday. Thanks to Markus’ strong showings combined with Frankie’s 9th place, the team collected the second place trophy in the Teams’ Championship – an award collected by Team Manager Radek Mencl.
The four excellent results for Markus netted him a total of 32 points in the weekend – thereby promoting him to sixth overall in the championship standings.
Frankie’s weekend didn’t go quiet so well –as gearbox problems hampered his efforts and his best result of the weekend was 5th in Sunday’s Qualy race. Thanks to the celerity of the technicians, who removed the gearbox and replaced it in less than half an hour, the Czech driver still retains 9th overall in the championship.
The teams now have two weeks to re-prepare the machinery prior to two back-to-back weekends of racing – first at Circuit Zolder (Belgium) on September 13/14 immediately followed by Le Mans (France).
