With a Marathon, semi-marathon and 10K, Run in Lyon is a major event for running enthusiasts. For the 2012 edition, Renault Trucks is taking part in the companies’ challenge and will have 650 competitors on the starting line.
Renault Trucks’ site in Lyon is located near Parilly park, so it is no surprise to see many of the company’s employees out jogging over their lunch hour. One of them, Karine Gouedard-Comte, works in the Finance department. It was her idea to get her running colleagues together to enter Renault Trucks for the Run in Lyon event. The race takes place each year, through the streets of Lyon, with 10K, 21K and marathon for runners of all ages and all levels. “I wanted to get as many people as possible around a special event that is different to what we do in the office”, she explains. “The idea appealed to a few of my colleagues and we persuaded Management to support us.” The company agreed to make its contribution and pay their entry fees, along with the works’ committee. It went even further by setting up a special training programme for employees that started at the end of August.
And so, twice a week over lunch, Renault Trucks employees get the best coaching from 2 members of staff, both FFA-qualified, in tandem with an ASVEL-Athletics trainer. There is a choice of two groups, “beginners” and “advanced”, meaning that each participant can work at his or her own pace. The group has grown and grown as the grapevine and the internal communications department have kicked in.
« With the founding members and the drama group, we made a few funny videos to encourage others to join us”, continues Karine Gouedard-Comte. “They appeared in the in-house newsletter, in the works’ canteens and can be viewed on the intranet.” It has been a great success, because there has been a rush of entries from the Bourg-en-Bresse and Lyon sites, and today, 650 entries have been reached. « This will be our sporting challenge for the year: winning the competition together, something to be proud of. The atmosphere is sure to be fantastic: don’t miss the start on October 7th at 9am, on Place Bellecour in the centre of Lyon!” says Karine Gouedard-Comte.
