VENISSIEUX ENGINE PLANT WILL ASSEMBLE MEDIUM DUTY ENGINES

The future engines to be supplied to European medium duty truck plants will be assembled in the engine plant located within the Renault Trucks site in Lyon-Venissieux.

Volvo Group decided to grant to the Venissieux engine plant the assembly of 5 to 8 liter engines. These will be complying with the Euro VI emission standard, applicable in 2013.

This new activity for the Lyon-Venissieux site, coming as an addition to the current assembly of 9 and 11 liter heavy duty engines, represents a 17 million Euro investment and will have a capacity of 40 000 units.

From an altogether external supply at present, it has been chosen to source the engine blocks and cylinder assemblies and to perform the final assembly on the Renault Trucks site. In addition, the application engineering of this engines range will be passed to this plant.

The estimated workforce is in the range of 100 employees working in two shifts.

This decision will contribute to strengthen the concentration of know-how and skills in the field of engines on the Lyon site
