Optifuel Challenge: Renault Trucks brings together the world's best eco-drivers in Spain
On 18 October 2017, Toledo will host the international final of the Optifuel Challenge, an eco-driving competition organised by Renault Trucks. 29 drivers from 29 countries will face off to win a Renault Trucks T480 Optifuel truck.
The Optifuel Challenge, an eco-driving competition created in 2012, perfectly illustrates Renault Trucks's comprehensive approach to vehicle-driver services and our commitment to helping our customers improve fuel efficiency. Our goal is to sustainably reduce fuel consumption from the very first kilometre.
29 drivers selected out of 2,500
Since the beginning of 2017, countries participating in the 4th edition of the Optifuel Challenge have been holding national challenges. Now the 29 best eco-drivers from around the world, chosen from more than 2,500 entrants, are preparing for the final that will start on 18 October in Toledo, near Madrid.
A two-part final
The international final will be split into two parts. First, drivers will complete a questionnaire that tests their knowledge of eco-driving principles and how to reduce fuel consumption. Next, they will participate in a 40-minute open-road driving test in a Renault Trucks T Optifuel with a 13-litre Euro 6 Step C engine. The winner will be the driver who consumed the least without sacrificing commercial speed.
Throughout the competition, drivers will be assisted by a representative from their company and a member of the local Renault Trucks network. Their team will be able to track their performance in real time using the Optifleet fleet management system.
To ensure equity among the competitors, a random draw will determine the order of passage, and tractor-trailer departures will be staggered. An additional vehicle will accompany each group of drivers to take into account traffic and any factors that may affect driving conditions.
The best driver will win a Renault Trucks T480 Optifuel truck.
