The French selections for the Optifuel Challenge 2014 international final took place from 2 to 5 June in the vicinity of the Castellet (Var) track at the wheel of a Renault Trucks T 460 fitted with the Fuel Eco pack. Out of the 24 entrants, the three best eco-drivers were selected to represent their companies in the international finals this autumn. They will be accompanied by the two winners of the 2013 Optifuel Challenge France.
The Optifuel Challenge is an international competition created by Renault Trucks and devoted to rational driving and fuel saving. Since March, the various countries taking part have been organising national challenges to select haulage companies who will represent their country in the Grand Final. For France, the selection of the best eco-drivers took place from 2 to 5 June 2014 in the vicinity of the Castellet (Var) track. Out of the 24 entrants, the three best eco-drivers were selected to represent their companies in the Optifuel Challenge final:
- Stéphane Saves for Semezies transports (Gers)
- Julien Dodre, for Norbert Dentressangle (Somme)
- Jean-Philippe Rioux for STEF (Loire region)
The two winners of the Optifuel Challenge 2013 trials will also be taking part in the final:
- Franck Modolo for the Vivadour Group (Gers)
- Yannick Le Collonnier for the Le Gouessant Cooperatives (Côtes d’Armor)
Entrants answered a theoretical questionnaire and completed two driving trials. The Renault Trucks Optifuel Solutions jury of experts judged the drivers on their consumption, journey time, driving style and respect for the Highway Code at the wheel of a Renault Trucks T 460 equipped with the Fuel Eco pack. Thanks to the Optifuel Infomax software, they were able to analyse the data concerning each entrant’s driving and fuel consumption, as well as observe the improvement each one of them made between the two on-road trials.
The best eco-drivers from the 19 countries taking part will be representing their companies during the Optifuel Challenge 2014 final which will take place next autumn.
