Jarama races : mission accomplished for Renault Trucks

"We're going to Jarama to win points!" The Renault Trucks team announced before the third leg of the FIA European Truck Racing Championships. With the three drivers picking up 90 points during this weekend's races, the objective has certainly been reached. Altogether, the team won three podium places, including a second for Markus Oestreich on the Sunday, and now have a total of 316 points in the overall team rankings.

The third stage of the FIA European Truck Racing Championships took place this weekend at Jarama, Spain, under a brilliant sun. With a total of three podium places, including a second for Markus Oestreich on the Sunday, the Renault Trucks team has achieved its ambition to win points which will be very valuable for the rest of the season.

But things didn't go smoothly for everyone this weekend. Starting with the trials on the Saturday, Adam Lacko had to cope with technical problems that dogged him throughout the day. He did however manage to get a fourth place during the "super pole", right behind his team colleague Markus Oestreich, while Markus Bösiger came in sixth. More bad luck forced Lacko to leave the track before the end of the first race. Markus Oestreich managed maintain his third position, followed by Markus Bösiger close behind.

The second race was undoubtedly one of the weekend's highlights. Penalised for arriving late on the track, Markus Oestreich and Adam Lacko had to start the race behind everyone else. But what a show they put on! Markus Oestreich used all his talent and experience to move up from 23rd place to fourth, only a few hundredths of a second from the podium. Adam Lacko and Markus Bösiger also fought hard to respectively finish fifth and sixth.

Sunday started off rather better. In the “super pole” Oestreich came in second, followed by Lacko in fourth place and Bösiger fifth. After a frenzied first race, the three Renault Trucks team drivers maintained their rankings and Markus Oestreich reached the second step on the podium, his best result during the weekend.

The last race was also full of suspense! The leading group stayed bunched up together throughout the 12 laps, with only room for “hair’s-breadth” overtaking - conditions which allowed Markus Bösiger to reach the third step of the podium. Markus Oestreich and Adam Lacko finished sixth and seventh respectively.

After this weekend of racing, the Renault Trucks-MKR Technology team still leads the overall team rankings and Markus Oestreich is currently third in the individual driver classification. Renault Trucks aims to continue in the same vein and looks forward to meeting all truck racing enthusiasts on 23 and 24 June at Nogaro for the next leg of the championship.

The championship will come back to Jarama in october, just before the last race of the season. The opportunity for Renault Trucks to share the thrill of the race for its customers of the iberic peninsula.
