For their first competition outing at the Italian stage of the European Truck Racing championships, MKR Technology’s brand new Renault Trucks entrants were the real stars on the Misano course. Stars because of the drivers who led them to victory: Markus Boesiger won the event, with a total of 44 points from the 4 races that took place over the May 22-23 2010 weekend. Stars too because of their design – unique in Europe – which caused a real sensation amongst this truck-racing audience, so passionate about their trucks.
Over the 4 races of the Italian stage of the European Truck Racing championships on May 22 and 23, the two MKR Technology team drivers at the wheels of their Premium Course, really stood out from the crowd. The Swiss driver Markus Boesiger finished 1st in the weekend’s two main races, the first and the third. Also in the 3rd race, the German driver Markus Ostereich took third place, putting 2 Renault Trucks vehicles in the top three: a first in the history of the European Truck Racing championships! In the end, Markus Boesiger won the day, ramping up 44 points, 6 points ahead of his nearest rival. Markus Ostereich finished 5th with 27 points, giving an overall total which temporarily at least puts Renault Trucks and MKR Technology at the top of the team rankings.
As MKR Technology’s main partner, Renault Trucks supplies the Dxi13 racing engine, the series version of which equips Renault Magnum and some Renault Kerax. The manufacturer is also providing two engine engineers throughout the European championship events. Another characteristic element of Premium Course is its distinctive, innovative design. Dreamed up by the Design Hall (HDD) teams, Renault Trucks’ in-house design department, these atypical trucks show Renault Trucks’ desire to charm the world’s truck fans and its customers with the show they put on on the track. The Premium Course won over many spectators who, between the races, would come to visit the Renault Trucks stand to get a closer look at these trucks that look more like they came out of some sort of a Batman, or maybe Darth Vader film.
Premium Course has recently been fitted with the Arvin Meritor transmission and braking system, a partner who is investing alongside Renault Trucks and MKR Technology. The same applies to Renault Trucks Oils who provide oil and fuel as well as Goodyear, the exclusive racing tyre supplier, to fit the racing truck.
Renault Trucks Italy made the most of the event, inviting 600 customers and partners. They were given avant premier access to the complete new range of Master by Renault Trucks in the van version and the cab chassis version with four display vehicles at the event. Renault Midlum with its Optitronic robotised gearbox, Renault Premium Optifuel a fuel consumption optimised vehicle and the limited edition Route 66 version of Renault Magnum were all on show. Finally two Sherpa which took part in the Cape to Cape expedition last year also raised great interest amongst the public. Between the two races Premium Optifuel and Magnum took customers and spectators on a test run around the track.
“This was a great victory for Renault Trucks MKR Technology. It is also a big first for this brand new team created just a few months ago and racing with the new Premium Course. This speaks volumes for the work that has been done to achieve such success. But a lot still remains to be done. The Misano circuit is only the first of nine events,” said Stefano Chmielewski, CEO of Renault Trucks SAS.
